Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

Join us in the spectacular Wallowa Mountains of northeast Oregon as a Wilderness Ranger Intern/Volunteer! Over 350,000 acres and 500 miles of trails in the Eagle Cap Wilderness provide a variety of landscapes and routes from moderate, low-elevation day hikes to alpine scrambles.

We are recruiting a 2-4-person crew that will work independently and alongside professional USFS Wilderness Rangers. Backcountry and wilderness trips may range from day hikes to 10-day overnight hitches. Interns will primarily work from a remote base camp in the Lakes Basin Management Area. We are looking for candidates with backcountry travel and camping experience who are capable of working on a crew and in a solo capacity. Our ideal candidates are self-reliant individuals eager to share their knowledge and passion for Wilderness as well as help with light trail maintenance and rehabilitation of illegal campsites.

This opportunity is available from Mid-June to Mid-September. A minimum of a 6-week commitment within this timeframe is required. Preference will be given to longer-term applicants.

Shared, bunkhouse-style housing may be available, as well as reimbursement for food and incidental expenses. Some equipment and uniforms will be provided.
