The Delray Beach Public Library is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist in the Children's Library. This multifaceted role involves organizing and shelving children's books, as well as providing support in preparing and executing library programs. A crucial aspect of this position is maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for young library visitors.

Responsibilities:

1. Book Shelving and Organization:

- Sort and shelve children's books according to the library's classification system.

- Maintain a neat and organized appearance of the children's book section.

- Assist in periodic inventory checks and reordering of materials.

2. Program Preparation:

- Collaborate with library staff in preparing materials for children's programs.

- Set up program spaces, ensuring they are conducive to engaging and interactive activities

- Assist with assembling and organizing program materials, such as craft supplies or educational resources.

3. Customer Assistance:

- Provide friendly and helpful assistance to library patrons, especially children and parents.

- Direct visitors to appropriate sections and resources within the Children's Library.

- Answer basic inquiries about library programs and services.

4. Background Check:

- Successfully complete a background check as part of the volunteer application process.

Qualifications:

- Enthusiasm for working with children and promoting a love for reading.

- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Ability to follow library classification systems and procedures.

- Reliable and punctual with a commitment to a regular volunteering schedule.

- Clear communication skills and a friendly demeanor.

Description

The Ladies Improvement Association founded the Delray Beach Public Library in 1913. In 1938 the Delray Beach Public Library Association became a not-for-profit corporation to provide a public library in Delray Beach. Since 1950, our patrons have received library service through a successful public/private partnership between the City of Delray Beach and the Library Association. The City of Delray Beach has provided a large percentage of the annual operating budget and the Library Association has raised capital funds.

Delray Beach Public Library exists to enrich the lives of the individuals of Delray Beach’s diverse communities by creating and sustaining superior public library services through responsive staff, dynamic collections, appropriate technology and access to global information.
