We seek dedicated board directors who are talented and passionate professionals with leadership experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

As member of the Development and Fundraising committee:
  • Contributes to strategy for cultivating major gift prospects (individual, foundation, corporate)
  • Supports staff in potential prospect evaluation and strategizing the solicitation process
  • Participates actively in special events and leading capital campaigns
As a member of the Building and Grounds committee:
  • Contributes to development of the 5 year plan for the building (resident apartments, public bathrooms, community rooms) and grounds
  • Supports staff in planning, RFQ process, supplier evaluation and project execution oversight using design, engineering, energy/sustainability, project management, skills
As a member a Technology and Cybersecurity expert:
  • Contributes to the technology and cybersecurity strategy for the organization and building
  • Supports staff in planning, RFQ process, supplier evaluation and project execution oversight for enhancing and securing IT as well as the risk management procedures to safeguard data, transactions, and overall business operations
As a member of the Governance and Nominating committee:
  • Contributes to: clarifying board and committee responsibilities, board composition, board knowledge, board effectiveness, and provides board leadership
  • Contributes to strategy development and execution for recruiting, onboarding and continuous education of board directors to satisfy skills needs
As a member of the Resident Life committee:
  • Contributes to strategy for cultivating enduring relationships with community organizations
  • Supports staff in potential partnership evaluation and strategizing the selection process

As a member of the SCS board of directors and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board provides oversight of:

  • the mission and strategy of the organization
  • fiduciary, investment, financial, budgets and risk management
  • fundraising and resource development
  • approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
  • enhancing the organization’s public image
  • assessing its own performance as the governing body
  • ensuring legal and ethical integrity.

Board Director responsibilities:

  • Board Meeting Attendance: 5 board meetings per year, 1 annual retreat, other board events
  • Committees: joins at least one committee (e.g. Finance, Development and Fundraising, Building and Grounds, Governance and Nominating, Cultural, Resident Life), helps set committee goals and their achievement via reliable meeting attendance (mix of inperson and virtual) and contributions
  • Sharing expertise, viewpoints, questions, and concerns for better informed decision making
  • Participating in fundraising and resource development outreach including making an annual contribution commensurate with Board Director’s capacity
  • Advising and supporting Executive Director as appropriate
  • Assisting Governance and Nominating committee in recruiting other Board Directors and volunteers
  • Progressing diversity and inclusiveness efforts of SCS and the Board

Description

The Scandinavian Living Center is a nonprofit assisted living center taking an inspired approach to elder care. By adopting core Scandinavian principles, we have created a senior living community where individuals from all cultures and backgrounds can lead connected, fulfilling lives. Community involvement is central to the Scandinavian Living Center's mission. It allows our residents to remain active members of their community in authentic and meaningful ways. Our on-site Cultural Center offers high-quality arts and cultural programming. And we have a weekly pop-up Kaffestugan (a cafe' open seasonally on Saturdays 10:00am-2:00pm) and host events and programs that are open to both the SLC residents and the broader local community.
