With even a small effort, YOU can have a huge improvement in people's lives! Are you bilingual, friendly, and looking to make a difference in your community? The wonderful seniors at the Pike Market Senior Center need your help! We are looking for friendly volunteers to assist with day-to-day translation for our community members.
The Pike Market Senior Center serves a hugely diverse community. We are open to all adults 55 years or older in the downtown area, and many of our members speak English as a second (or third!) language. We need your help to support them: by translating mail, applications, and other day-to-day documents, you can help our wonderful members connect with social services and community. No social services experience needed! Our staff will be available to answer any questions you might have.
We particularly need: Spanish-speaking volunteers.
IDEAL VOLUNTEERS:
- Can commit to a regular presence at the Senior Center, in order to build trust with our members
- Are fluent in English and Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, or Chinese/Mandarin
- Are friendly, patient, and communicate well
- Schedule an interview session to explain the role
- Provide an orientation
- Provide training and guidance as needed
TOGETHER WE WILL:
- Ensure vulnerable seniors in the downtown area have access to social services and community!
- Make the daily lives of members easier!
- Make friends and build community across languages and cultures!

Description
The Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank is located in the historic Pike Place Market. We have been serving our neighbors in the heart of Seattle since 1978.
The Senior Center serves people age 55 and up. Membership is free and there are no fees for meals, services or regular activities. While people from all walks of life are members of PMSC, we are pioneers in offering senior center programming to elders who are homeless.
The Food Bank serves people of any age, offering free groceries, ready-to-eat food for clients experiencing homelessness, and home delivery for qualified residents of Downtown Seattle. We serve 800 in-person grocery clients weekly and distribute over 300 grocery deliveries.
