Position Title: Director of Cat Rescue Program (Volunteer, Non-Paid)

Reports to: The Board of Directors

Goals:

  • Advocate for animals who cannot speak for themselves.
  • Promote the core values of the Fayette Humane Society (FHS), including the importance of spaying and neutering.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Fayette County Animal Control, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners, local veterinarians, PetSmart management, and any affiliated organizations where events are held.

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

  • Oversee day-to-day decision-making within the Cat Program, addressing issues referred by Coordinators and Leads.
  • Develop program strategies for Board approval.
  • Submit a budget for the Cat Program to the Board annually.
  • Represent FHS and its mission at fundraising events, chamber events, Rotary events, and other community engagements.

Core Responsibilities: This all-volunteer, unpaid position includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee Cat Program activities and decisions.
  • Recruit and train volunteers for critical roles, including:
    • Cat Program Intake Coordinator
    • Cat Program Foster Coordinator
    • Cat Program Medical Coordinator
  • Uphold and promote FHS policies and principles, proposing changes as needed.
  • Maintain accurate animal records in our management software.
  • Adhere to and promote PetSmart Adoption Guidelines while fostering a positive relationship with store management.
  • Ensure internal guidelines and procedures are followed, addressing any issues as they arise.
  • Communicate directly with veterinarians as needed.
  • Respond to phone messages and handle inquiries appropriately.
  • Complete administrative tasks, documenting animals from arrival to adoption, including foster care and veterinary care.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of animals and fosters.
  • Oversee foster placements, inspections, and records.
  • Collaborate with Animal Control for animal transfers.
  • Organize and lead volunteer meetings.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Active volunteer with the Fayette Humane Society.
  • Minimum age of 25 with at least 3 years of volunteer service with FHS.
  • Warm, friendly, and enthusiastic personality.
  • Comfortable interacting with cats and the public.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Knowledgeable about FHS and able to represent the organization with integrity and trust.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and policies of Fayette Humane Society as outlined in the FHS Volunteer Handbook.
  • Regular access to email and social media for updates and communication.
  • Computer literate and proficient with Google Applications.
  • Experience in shelter management is preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay detail-oriented.
  • Strong knowledge of animal care and behavior.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

  • 15-20 hours per week once the team is staffed and the program is running smoothly.
  • Volunteer meeting locations and Peachtree City PetSmart.

Fayette Humane Society advocates for animals, supports the community, and enhances pet/owner relationships through spay/neuter programs, rehoming & adoption services, and community education and outreach.

Description

The Fayette Humane Society is located in Fayette County, Georgia. We are a non-profit all volunteer organization that does not have a building. We assist pet owners with pet rehoming through owner surrender into out organization. We have initiated a Spay/Neuter program for pet owners and our dog/cat rescues in our community. Our volunteers coordinate and participate in a Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return Program for feral cats. Our organization promotes adoption of our many dogs and cats through Weekend Petsmart Adoptions. We rely on Volunteer Fosters to provide housing for our many rescues until they find a forever home.
