Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee 's (CEOC) mission is to empower people and mobilize resources to fight poverty’s causes and impacts through education and organizing. We envision an inclusive and diverse Cambridge without poverty where everyone has affordable housing, quality health care and education, food security and economic stability. Established in 1965, Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee (CEOC) is Cambridge's designated anti-poverty nonprofit Community Action Agency, providing a comprehensive "bundled services" approach to help people in need access the resources and benefits for which they are eligible. We work one-on-one with participants to address their needs by providing services like free tax preparation, two food pantries, public benefits/SNAP assistance, health insurance enrollment/assistance, housing assistance, financial education/coaching, community-based mental health intervention, and more, while also engaging in public policy advocacy around affordable housing, poverty, food security, and other related issues.

As a Volunteer Income Tax Assistant(VITA), (in partnership with Hunger Free America - AmeriCorps Senior 55+ Volunteer Program) you will prepare basic tax returns after receiving training and passing an exam. Mission Statement

HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Description

HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
