Campground Host - Laramie Ranger District
In the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest there are a handful of campgrounds listed below that will be open to hosting opportunities for the summer of 2025.
DESCRIPTION
Pay rate = $25 per person, per day
Reimbursements = Propane for RV + Generator Gas + Water + Mileage (if applicable)
List of campgrounds that will need a host:
Snowy Range
· Willow Campground - Located about 35 minutes from Laramie at 8,600ft, 16 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, host has septic hookup but no power or water hookups. There are two operable handpumps for water onsite. Moderate cellphone coverage for AT&T and Verizon. This location will have some reservation sites.
· Nash Fork Campground - Located about 40 minutes from Laramie at 10,200ft, located along Highway 130 Scenic Byway, 24 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, host has septic hookup but no power or water hookups. There is no water in the campground but water can be collected from nearby sites via a handpump. Limited cellphone coverage for AT&T and Verizon. This location will have some reservation sites.
· North Fork Campground - Located about 40 minutes from Laramie at 9,200ft, located along Highway 130 Scenic Byway, total of 60 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, host has septic hookup but no power or water hookups. There are two or three operable handpumps for water onsite. Limited cellphone coverage for AT&T and Verizon. This location will have some reservation sites.
· Pelton Creek Campground - Located 60 minutes from Laramie at 8,300ft, total of 14 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, there are no septic, power or water hookups. There is an operable handpump for water onsite. No cellphone coverage. This location will have some reservation sites.
· Rob Roy Campground - Located 55 minutes from Laramie at 9,500ft, total of 65 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, host has septic hookup but no power or water hookups. There are two are three operable handpumps for water onsite. No cellphone coverage. This location will have some reservation sites.
Pole Mountain
· Vedauwoo Campground - Located about 20 minutes from Laramie at 8,300ft, 29 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, host has septic hookup but no power or water hookups. There is an operable handpump for water onsite and a threaded water hookup at the nearby I-80 rest area for RV fill-ups. Moderate cellphone coverage for AT&T and Verizon. This location will have some reservation sites.
· Vedauwoo Tent Campground - Located about 20 minutes from Laramie at 8,200ft, 20 tent CG sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, host has septic hookup but no power or water hookups. There is an operable handpump for water in the main campground and a threaded water hookup at the nearby I-80 rest area for RV fill-ups. Moderate cellphone coverage for AT&T and Verizon. This location will have some reservation sites.
· Tie City Campground - Located about 15 minutes from Laramie, 17 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, there are no septic, power or water hookups. There is an operable handpump for water onsite and a threaded water hookup at the nearby I-80 rest area for RV fill-ups. Moderate cellphone coverage for AT&T and Verizon. This location will have some reservation sites.
· Yellow Pine Campground - Located about 20 minutes from Laramie, 19 sites, a restroom cleaning contract is in place for assistance with restroom upkeep, host has black water hookup at Yellow Pine but no power or water hookups. There is an operable handpump for water onsite at Tie City CG and a threaded water hookup at the nearby I-80 rest area for RV fill-ups. Moderate cellphone coverage for AT&T and Verizon. This location might have some reservation sites.
DUTIES
Descriptions of services to be performed by volunteer Campground Hosts:
1. Greet and assist visitors, answer questions, and explain regulations which apply to them. Distribute maps and handout brochures. May assist campers in locating a campsite, must be familiar with local points of interest and the location of services that might be requested by campers such as towing, groceries, churches, tourist attractions and local events.
2. Some campgrounds have sites that will be reservable on recreation.gov. The Host will receive the bi-weekly arrival report from district staff and post reservation dates on site posts.
2. Will perform maintenance work around the campground such as litter pickup, cleaning and stocking of restrooms, provide information to FS staff on potential problems, and disseminate information to campers.
3. May assist in campground public relations, educational activities, and special events/activities.
4. Clean campsites by performing minor maintenance tasks such as raking the campsite pad, washing tables, cleaning out fire rings, picking up litter, and reporting any damage to the FS. Each site should be cleaned after every camper leaves and before other campers arrive.
5. Host will not attempt to discipline or apprehend any guests in violation of the rules. Hosts should inform campers of rules and regulations, but are not to participate in any high risk activity. Host must set an example by being a model camper practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around their assigned site and by observing all rules and regulations.
6. Host is expected to work most weekends and holidays during their term. Be observant for activities within the campground requiring immediate attention. Notify the FS as these problems arise. Other minor tasks that might be asked of a Campground Host:
· Sweep cobwebs from buildings
· Keep track of occupied or vacant campsites
· Direct campers to vacant sites
· Inform campers of food storage safety tips
7. Keep a written report of complaints and criticism of FS facilities, report situations that could affect the health and safety of visitors and report any maintenance items which need immediate attention. The host may maintain other written records as requested by the FS.
DAILY:
-Spot Check Toilets:
· Check toilet paper.
· Sweep.
-Reservation Management (if site has reservations)
· Handwrite reservation dates on site posts. List will be provided on Fridays.
· If a reserved campsite is not occupied on the first day of the reservation the campsite will be made available the following day at 2:00 p.m. to first-come-first-served visitors.
-Talk With Visitors:
· Check in with campers as they are setting camp, and with other campers around the campground.
· Answer questions.
· Check that campers have their fee envelope posted.
-Spot Check Campsites:
· Clean any recently vacated campsites. This includes fire pits, bear boxes, and micro trash.
· Make sure occupied campsites are clean and in good order.
· Remove old post tickets.
· Bag and dispose of ashes when cool.
· Tighten bolts on picnic tables.
· Remove any stickers or graffiti from tables, signs, and restrooms.
QUALIFICATIONS
Host must have a valid driver’s license and pass a background check. This person must be able to walk up to 2 miles at a time and lift 30 pounds. Also, a friendly positive attitude is essential to be successful in this position. Must have an RV, camper trailer, or something similar set up in the designated Camp Host site.

This position will be outside in a developed campground environment and will be subject to weather and environmental factors. This position will be contacting and interacting with members of the public.
