Role Overview: The Treasurer of the Board plays a vital role in overseeing the financial health and sustainability of Albatross Aviary. This position is ideal for an individual with a passion for birds and their welfare, as well as a strong understanding of financial management and accountability. The Treasurer will work closely with the Board of Directors, ensuring sound financial practices that support our mission.


Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight: Maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of the organization's financial transactions, including income, expenses, and donations.
  • Budget Development: Assist in the creation of an annual budget, in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board, to guide the organization's financial activities.
  • Financial Reports: Prepare and present regular financial reports to the Board of Directors, summarizing the organization's financial status, budget performance, and financial trends.
  • Financial Policies: Ensure that the organization follows sound financial policies and procedures, including those related to financial controls, transparency, and accountability.
  • Banking and Accounts: Manage the organization's bank accounts, including deposits, withdrawals, and reconciliations. Maintain a record of all financial accounts and investments.
  • Donor Records: Maintain records of donors and donations, ensuring accurate and timely acknowledgments and tax receipts are provided.
  • Financial Planning: Collaborate with the Board and Executive Director to develop long-term financial plans and strategies that align with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Fundraising Support: Work with the fundraising committee to provide financial data and reports necessary for grant applications and fundraising efforts.
  • Nonprofit Compliance: Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements for nonprofit organizations, including tax filings and reporting.
  • Audit and Review: Oversee annual financial audits or reviews, collaborating with external auditors or reviewers as needed.
  • Financial Transparency: Promote financial transparency within the organization, ensuring that all board members have a clear understanding of the financial state of the organization.
  • Financial Policy Updates: Review and update financial policies and procedures as needed to reflect best practices and changing financial circumstances.
  • Board Decision Support: Provide financial insights and guidance to the Board to support informed decision-making.

Qualifications and Expectations:

  • A passion for birds and their welfare.
  • Financial expertise, preferably with a background in accounting, finance, or related fields.
  • Strong financial management and analytical skills.
  • Dedication to Albatross Aviary's mission and values.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to board responsibilities.
  • Availability to attend board meetings and fulfill financial reporting requirements.

Time Commitment: The Treasurer of the Board is expected to commit 20 hours per month to fulfill their duties effectively. This includes attending board meetings, financial oversight, and reporting responsibilities.
