Mission Statement: Albatross Aviary is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating tropical and endangered/companion birds, with a special focus on abused, abandoned, and neglected individuals. We provide them with a safe and loving environment, promoting their well-being and welfare.


Role Overview: The Operations and Project Manager is a crucial leadership position within Albatross Aviary's Board of Directors, responsible for overseeing daily operations and managing special projects to support our mission. This role is perfect for an individual with a passion for birds and their welfare, as well as strong project management and organizational skills. The Operations and Project Manager will play a pivotal role in the success of our organization.


Responsibilities:

  • Operational Oversight: Ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the rescue, including bird care oversight, facility operations and maintenance, and staffing.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage special projects and initiatives that align with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Facility Maintenance: Oversee facility maintenance, write up work reports for repairs and improvements to provide a safe and suitable environment for our avian residents
  • Staff and Volunteer Management: Supervise staff and volunteers involved in daily operations, providing leadership, training, and support.
  • Project Planning: Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for key initiatives, collaborating with board members and volunteers as needed.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources, including financial and human resources, to ensure the successful completion of projects and operational tasks.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, permits, and licensing related to the rescue's operations.
  • Inventory and Supplies: Manage inventory and supplies necessary for daily operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective procurement.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure the well-being of our avian residents and the integrity of our operations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records and documentation related to projects, operations, and facility management.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans for the rescue, including evacuation and disaster preparedness.
  • Board Collaboration: Work closely with the Board of Directors to align operations with the organization's strategic goals and mission.
  • Budget Management: Assist in the development and management of the rescue's annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Reporting: Provide regular reports to the board on project and operational progress, challenges, and outcomes.

Qualifications and Expectations:

  • A passion for birds and their welfare.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit management, operations, or project management is preferred.
  • Dedication to Albatross Aviary's mission and values.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to board responsibilities.
  • Availability to attend board meetings and fulfill project and operational management responsibilities.

Time Commitment: The Operations and Project Manager is expected to commit 20-30 hours per month to fulfill their duties effectively. This includes attending board meetings, managing operations, and overseeing project initiatives.
