The Washington Heights-Inwood Preservation and Restoration Corporation (WHIPRC) is a nonprofit, social service agency whose highly committed staff is dedicated to identifying and responding to the needs of the community through a broad array of programs and services that empower local residents and revitalize the neighborhood. WHIPRC seeks to fight hunger and malnutrition through a variety of food programs, including a monthly distribution to approximately 100 households which usually includes groceries and fresh produce.
As a Food Distribution Support Volunteer you will assist the food distribution team by reviewing and completing food orders for individuals and families.
This is an in-person role, typically on Mondays for 4 hours. Commitment is once a month through June 2024. Helpful skills are ability to break down boxes, stand outside for several hours, carry heavy bags, follow detailed instructions, work in a fast- paced environment. Ideal volunteers will live close by with flexibility on start time based on food delivery arrival. We are accessible by the 1 and A train, and by buses bx7 and m100.

Mission Statement
HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Description
HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
