Have you been touched by a loved one with dementia? Have you had family members or friends benefit from hospice care? One way that we are able to help those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia is by providing fidget mats or blankets. These help in the times that restlessness increases and picking on skin behaviors occur when the condition progresses. Fidget mats and blankets can help retain fine motor skills and provide comfort and stress release by being able to work with familiar objects helping them with self-soothing behaviors.
Fidget mats and blankets have things such as buttons, beads, clips, keys, and zippers firmly attached so that the person can have the visual, tactile, and sensory stimulation.
