Have you been touched by a loved one with dementia? Have you had family members or friends benefit from hospice care? One way that we are able to help with those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia is by providing fidget sleeves and fidget mats. These help in the times that restlessness increases and picking on skin behaviors occur when the condition progresses. Fidget sleeves and mats can help retain fine motor skills and provide comfort and stress release by being able to work with familiar objects, helping them with self-soothing behaviors.
Fidget sleeves and mats have things such as buttons, beads, clips, gears, and zippers firmly attached so that the person can have the visual, tactile, and sensory stimulation. Instructions for these helpful sleeves or mats can be found on Pinterest, Ravelry, or on an internet search. Hospice Promise Volunteer Coordinator, Avivah, will be happy to send you one as well. If you need materials, Hospice Promise can provide those on request.
