William Temple House is seeking volunteers to help at the Front Desk in the Social Services Department, at our NW Portland location. Front Desk Volunteers should be comfortable working with a diverse array of people from various ethnic, social, and religious backgrounds and be able to work with vulnerable clients.
Food Pantry Client Services Volunteers performs the following duties :
- Assist and support the front desk staff person in greeting clients, directing clients, and answering questions.
- Assist with the client intake process, as needed.
- Assist clients with completing the 'Ready Bag’ food form.
- Help accept in-kind donations.
- Assist staff with the Food Pantry client lottery (to determine the order that clients can access the Food Pantry).
- Assist with running up/down stairs to bring bagged/boxed Food Pantry client orders from Food Pantry to Lobby.
- Help clients take food items to their cars.
Job Requirements :
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with fellow volunteers, staff, and occasionally challenging clients.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Be patient and have the ability to multi-task.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Able to work on feet. This is a physical job.
- Make a 3 month volunteer commitment.
- Pass a background check.
