ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

The Black Mesa Ranger district on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Overgaard, Arizona is seeking motivated individuals or couples to fill several host positions in the Rim Lakes Recreation Area on the Mogollon Rim for the 2024 summer season. Hosts represent the Forest Service for visitors by giving directions, explaining rules and regulations, answering questions, and providing information. They report vandalism and other problems to Forest Service personnel. They also perform minor maintenance, rake sites, clean fire rings and picnic tables, pick up litter and monitor area usage.

A host must work well with people, be personable, neat in appearance, and behave in a manner appropriate to the workplace. They will be required to be actively working on site a minimum of 32 hours per week, preferably Thursday through Sunday, including weekends and holidays. The host position involves walking, raking, shoveling and working outside in a variety of weather conditions. This may include standing, bending, twisting, carrying, and lifting. Each volunteer is required to have an enclosed, fully self-contained travel trailer or RV for the position. No hook ups are available. Weekly potable water deliveries and trash pick-up are provided a well as a free campsite. Position is NOT required or permitted to collect fees from campers or visitors.

Hosting provides a wonderful opportunity to escape the heat of the Phoenix and Tucson valley to spend the summer in the cool mountain comfort of the Mogollon Rim.

Host Duties:

Greet, help orient, provide information, inform visitors of rules and regulations

Perform minor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, shoveling and raking

Extinguish abandoned campfires

Inspect campground

Record keeping

Monitor use of area

Ash removal from fire pits/grills

Cleaning picnic tables

Picking up trash

All necessary tools, supplies, safety equipment, uniform components, and training will be provided by the Forest Service.
