Join Global Dental Relief at our only domestic clinic location. Surrounded by the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, volunteers work in a rural community where 60% of children live without access to dentistry. The closest dentist is a two-hour drive, and many in the community lack both transportation as well as the resources to pay for care. Days are spent working in the clinic, while evenings are spent enjoying the local trails, mountain scenery and regional history in this bucolic setting.
Project Cost: $795 (based on double occupancy)
GDR will provide single rooms where possible upon request.
Please call our office for more information.
Working in collaboration with SmileFaith, a 501(c)(3) organization, volunteers provide dental care to children in and around Jenkins, Kentucky.
Volunteers stay in a home that has been converted into a guesthouse by SmileFaith for volunteers. The project lasts eight days, which includes: travel time to Kentucky, orientation and five days working in the dental clinic.

Mission Statement
At Global Dental Relief, our mission is to bring free dental care and oral health education to children around the globe, in Nepal, India, Guatemala, Mexico, Kenya, Cambodia and the US. Teams of volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants and general volunteers deliver treatment and preventive care in dental clinics that serve children in schools and remote villages. Global Dental Relief programs extend this reach by delivering toothbrushes and oral health education in schools between clinics and by providing critical nutrition to children in high-need situations.
Description
Global Dental Relief Model of Care
GDR provides preventive care and oral health education to children with little or no access to a dentist. In partnership with local organizations, field clinics are set up at schools and municipal facilities, with the exception of Kenya, where clinics are held in a local medical center.
In these clinics, children receive an exam, and are given any needed treatment including restorations, extractions, sealants, and a cleaning. In addition, GDR gives each child a fluoride treatment, and new toothbrush, and 3 points of oral health instruction throughout the visit. Care is provided primarily to restore permanent teeth and children are recalled every two years to ensure long term health.
