Mission Statement

At Global Dental Relief, our mission is to bring free dental care and oral health education to children around the globe, in Nepal, India, Guatemala, Mexico, Kenya, Cambodia and the US. Teams of volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants and general volunteers deliver treatment and preventive care in dental clinics that serve children in schools and remote villages. Global Dental Relief programs extend this reach by delivering toothbrushes and oral health education in schools between clinics and by providing critical nutrition to children in high-need situations.

Description

Global Dental Relief Model of Care

GDR provides preventive care and oral health education to children with little or no access to a dentist. In partnership with local organizations, field clinics are set up at schools and municipal facilities, with the exception of Kenya, where clinics are held in a local medical center.

In these clinics, children receive an exam, and are given any needed treatment including restorations, extractions, sealants, and a cleaning. In addition, GDR gives each child a fluoride treatment, and new toothbrush, and 3 points of oral health instruction throughout the visit. Care is provided primarily to restore permanent teeth and children are recalled every two years to ensure long term health.

Even months later after my first Global Dental Relief(GDR) volunteer experience, I remember well the people of Guatemala, the beauty of the place and the wonderful children who opened their hearts (amd mouths) to us. This journey was made possible by the tenure and professionalism of GDR. The staff are great at making the trip easy and the memories last. Thank you GDR. I can't wait to volunteer again

Amazing experience and hands on work. As a high schooler, this was an opportunity that would not be available without global dental relief. Team leaders were inspiring and helped make the trip a memorable experience.

GDR is Incredibly organized and focused on delivering quality care to the populations they serve. Undeniably one of the best experiences of my life. I went on my first GDR trip to Guatemala about 18 months ago and since then I have been on a total of four trips! You will be hooked on volunteering once you finish your first trip. I look forward to continuing a long relationship with Global Dental Relief.

GDR is a well-run organization that enables and empowers its volunteers to deliver high-quality care. I was impressed by the organized, attentive, and fun trip leaders and the wonderful local staff from GDR’s parter organizations. As a non-medical volunteer supporting a dentist, I felt that I made an important contribution, and was never sitting idle. The trip leaders do a great job making sure everyone is comfortable in their roles, and will often rotate people if they want to try different stations (e.g. fluoride, records, hygiene). GDR also does a great job balancing time in the clinic with opportunities to explore Angkor Wat and experience Cambodian culture. Optional activities included temple visits at sunrise and sunset, meals at terrific restaurants, a stunning acrobatics performance, and evening strolls through food and craft markets. I highly recommend this program.

A wonderful, organized and rewarding program. All the legwork was accomplished for us, allowing the volunteers to do much needed dental work very efficiently. I especially enjoyed our interactions with our Cambodian partners. We work hard but also have time to sightsee and have fun. The trip leaders and other volunteers were great; dedicated and caring individuals. The accommodations were lovely and the town of Siem Reap lively.
