Digging deeper into Red Hill’s history requires some extra hands, which is why we have volunteer opportunities open to anyone interested in participating in archaeology!
During the summer, volunteers help with excavation, while in the winter, they assist with artifact processing. Equipment and guidance from archaeologists are provided. Whether you come dig with us for a single day or volunteer on a weekly basis, you’ll have the chance to engage hands-on with history and help uncover more of Red Hill’s story.
All ages are welcome, no experience required. Whether you come help for a single day or volunteer on a weekly basis, you’ll have the chance to engage hands-on with history and help uncover more of Red Hill’s story.

Mission Statement
Patrick Henry's Red Hill promotes educational and research programs about the life, character, times, philosophy, and legacy of Patrick Henry. As part of that mission, Red Hill, Patrick Henry’s last home and burial place, is maintained and interpreted as a historic site and museum.
Description
Patrick Henry's Red Hill, stewarded by the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation, was founded in 1944 to care for Red Hill and establish it as a National Memorial to Patrick Henry. After acquiring Red Hill from the Henry family, the Foundation began the process of restoring the property and constructing a museum to house what is now the largest collection of Patrick Henry-related artifacts in the world.
Today, Red Hill includes Patrick Henry’s grave and law office, his reconstructed house and other outbuildings, rare artifacts in the E. Stuart James Grant Museum Room, and a growing network of interpretive scenic trails. Educational programs such as living history days, school field trips, adult lectures, and museum exhibitions provide ample opportunities for community engagement and education.
