About FOSTERING WISHES

Location:

Alamo, ALAMO, CA 94507, US

Mission Statement

Fostering Wishes is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of our local foster children during their years in the foster system and assisting in preparing them to be self-sufficient upon and after their exit as young adults. Fostering Wishes envisions and "wishes" our vulnerable foster children will receive the support needed to grow into happy, healthy, successful young adults. Happiness matters, and every kid deserves it. And we all have the power to give it.

Description

Fostering Wishes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Alamo, California. We partner with local foster care agencies to improve children’s quality of life and enable them to be self-sufficient as young adults. Fostering Wishes is 100% volunteer driven, and all of the proceeds directly support the children. We currently have three main programs to support foster children.

Holiday Gift Drive: During the holiday season, Fostering Wishes provides presents to hundreds of foster children to brighten their holidays and feel cherished by the community. In this signature program, Fostering Wishes partners with area businesses to host small trees with gift tags.
Duffle Bag Program: A foster child changes homes an average of seven times during their time in the foster care system, and most children only have large trash bags to carry their few belongings. To help them move in style and improve their self-worth, Fostering Wishes provides new duffel bags stuffed with essentials for each child.
Transition to "Aging Out": In California, most kids "age out" of the foster care system between ages 18 and 21. At this point, they are expected to function as adults, despite ongoing challenges, including housing, finances, mental and physical health, and education or employment. Fostering Wishes plans to publish a guide of available resources. This guide is intended to help them identify and find financial assistance, health care, housing, counseling, and other needed services.
