CASA Guardians ad Litem are volunteers appointed by the court to advocate for the best interest of abused or neglected children involved in the child protection system. Guardians ad Litem, or GALs, are an unbiased party to the case and conduct an independent investigation of the child's case, and report their findings to the court. The GALs sole purpose is to advocate for the best interest of the child and are often the only constant person in the child's life while they are in the child protection system. Judges in child protection cases rely on information from the GAL when making their decisions and the positive impact the GAL has on the child's life is immense. Guardians ad Litem must be at least 21 years old and able to pass a criminal history check.
We recruite volunteers to serve in Elmore, Ada, Boise, and Valley counties.

Mission Statement
"Family Advocates works to strengthen families and keep kids safe by empowering everyday people to enrich the lives of youth." We are a private, independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit agency founded in 1978 and serve the fourth district of Idaho. This year, Family Advocates will provide a voice in court for over 1,100 children while providing family strengthening supports to nearly 1,200 additional family members. Our reach would not be possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers.
Description
Family Advocates trains and deploys over 500 volunteers each year to fulfill the demand of our child abuse and neglect prevention & intervention efforts throughout the 4th Judicial District of Idaho. Our CASA volunteers investigate child abuse, neglect, and abandonment and then advocate for those children in court to make sure the child’s voice is heard. Our Family Strengthening Education Program volunteers work with families to create strong networks and healthy habits through courses, workshops, family activities, and more. Please visit our website for details about each program!
