We distribute fresh wholesome grocery bags to more than 500 families each week. Help sort and package vegetables, bread, fruit, eggs, meat, etc. so that we can offer only the best to recipient families. Involves some counting and weighing, sorting and choosing. In an atmosphere of friendly, hard-working volunteers. Help prevent hunger. Mostly standing.

Inspect food donations. Choose the best and freshest. Repackage as needed.

Since we work from about 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 or 2:00 p.m.. most Mondays and Wednesdays, you can pick any 2-3 hour period during that time that works for your schedule.

3 Shifts

  • 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM EST - FULL
    Mondays or Wednesdays; Shift times can be adjusted.
  • afternoon / 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM EST - FULL
    shifts are flexible.
  • afternoon / 12:30 PM to 02:30 PM EST - FULL
    Mondays or Wednesdays, especially need help Mondays. Shift times can be adjusted.

Mission Statement

Francis on the Hill provides free groceries, diapers, clothing and other gifts to DC families through shared abundance, taking care of each other as one human family.

Description

We are an all volunteer organization that currently gives out about 500 bags of donated wholesome groceries weekly to recipients in need of food in Meridian Hill Park and nearby. We beautify the Park with hanging flower baskets and daily, early morning trash pickup. We distribute free diapers monthly. Our newest project is gathering food and supplies to ship to Ukraine with the help of Ukrainian partners.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 14
  • Two to three hours a week. The shift times can be adjusted to your schedule. Monday and Wednesday afternoons are our most urgent need, but mornings good as well.
  • Willingness to complete volunteer forms. Ability to stand for an hour or two while working.
