SMART Walk Showcases Technology-Based Artists, Organizations and Training Programs June 25 in Santa Ana
Media Arts Santa Ana (MASA) is proud to debut the first SMART Walk (South Main Art, Retail & Technology), a free community event showcasing technology-based art, businesses, career opportunities and training programs to Santa Ana youth and adults. The event is free and open to the public!
SMART Walk takes place on Saturday, June 25 from 11am-5pm at the OC Musicians Union (2050 S Main), and will include booths, demonstrations, educational opportunities, entertainment, taco vendors and art and technology-based resource booths. The event will also include in-person and virtual workshops and Augmented Reality (AR) murals by local artists, including Pocha Peña, Marina Aguilera, Skeith De Wine and Victor Payan.
Noted rock photographer Bonnie Schiffman will be participating in the event via a building-size augmented reality portrait of the Righteous Brothers, who are from Santa Ana, and via her thebonnieverse.com NFT collection of photos of legendary musicians, comedians, actors and directors.
Over the past three decades, Bonnie Schiffman has photographed hundreds of celebrities, from John Belushi to Steve Martin, James Brown to Johnny Rotten, George Burns to Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Child to Joni Mitchell, Muhammad Ali to Warren Buffet-all of whom have appeared in the most important American and international magazines. The energy and spontaneity that Bonnie brings to her work give rise to her unique images; we get a new, direct, and honest perspective on her subjects, often characterized by a lightness of touch that is the apparent result of spontaneous interaction between photographer and subject.
Exhibitors include Micro Center, Santa Ana College Drone Pilot Program, Santa Ana Public Library, the OC Musicians Union, Girls in Focus (LA), World Beat Cultural Center (SD), Leonardo DaVnci Institute, Young Choreographers Project, Media Arts Santa Ana and more. LA Carreta will also be on hand selling delicious tacos.
As technology fueled creativity and innovation on South Main over the last 100 years with advances in automobile customization, aerospace and music, Media Arts Santa Ana's SMART Walk will set the course for South Main's renaissance via harnessing new technologies to fuel economic prosperity over the next 100 years.
SMART Walk will place Saturday, June 25 from 11am to 5pm at the OC Musicians Union, located at 2050 S. Main, Santa Ana, CA 92707. Parking is available onsite and on nearby streets, and we encourage walking, bicycling and public transportation as ways for the community to attend the event. The venue is accessible via OCTA Bus Routes 53 and 150.
The SMART Walk will highlight South Main's notable creative legacy, which includes being the childhood home of actor Marlon Brando, the birthplace of the Righteous Brothers musical duo, the site of the influential Jon's Black Derby jazz, soul and blues venue, and the location of the legendary Rickenbacker musical instrument company, whose guitars and basses shaped the sound of groups such as The Beatles, The Who, The Byrds, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Jam, Prince and the Revolution, Tom Petty, The Beach Boys, The Bangles, Rush, Yes, Motörhead and countless other groundbreaking musicians.
