Are you interested in ethical remote volunteering opportunities? If so, The Small Things (TST) is the place for you! TST is- a US-based nonprofit working on the ground in Tanzania - working together to share resources in order to keep families together and transform the quality of care for vulnerable children in Tanzania. As a volunteer with our Book Reading program, you can support the literacy and English language skills of children in Tanzania today, from your own living room! This is a remote opportunity where you will be reading to either children at Happy Family Children's Village - a best practice, last-resort residential facility. All you need is a computer with a webcam and Zoom installed, and the ability to read. We will provide you with a meeting invite and a digital copy of the book you will be reading. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of four book readings. If you have questions about the project, please get in touch with Mariam - mariam@thesmallthings.org

Mission Statement
We focus on keeping children in families wherever possible, and providing loving care for them in small family-style homes, only when absolutely necessary.
Description
The Small Things is the culmination of decades of dedication from a number of hardworking women. It all began with Martha Ayo (known as Mama Pendo, or Mama Love), who has been caring for orphaned children in the Nkoaranga community for over 30 years. In 2010, Bekka Ross Russell founded The Small Things, to realize their shared vision of comprehensive, holistic support to keep families together and return children from care when possible, and family-style homes for children who cannot be reunified. Since 2015, Rehema Mussa has served as managing director, fulfilling our goal of having all programs managed and led by Tanzanian staff.
