What You’ll Do
As a DHS Service Associate, you will:
- Provide direct care to shelter residents, including assistance with daily living activities, wound care, and incontinence care.
- Conduct health assessments, offer health education, and determine if advanced medical care is needed.
- Assist clients in replacing medications, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Advocate for clients' healthcare needs in collaboration with the Disaster Health Services supervisor.
- Support maternal and child health needs when necessary.
- Complete a combination of self-paced and instructor-led training (approximately 9 hours).

Time Commitment
- Monthly: Approximately 4 hours.
- During disaster relief operations: Increased availability for shifts (8-12 hours on consecutive days).
Who Can Apply?
We’re looking for individuals who:
- Hold a current, unencumbered license in one of the following professions:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)*
- Paramedic*
- Medical Doctor (MD)
- Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
- Physician Assistant (PA)
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Are at least 18 years old.
- Possess a valid driver’s license (required for divisional and national deployments).
- Are willing to volunteer in person at disaster shelters before, during, or after disaster events.
- Can follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Are available to comply with Red Cross COVID-19 policies.
