caring hands

Looking for compassionate people to fill 5 hospice volunteer positions:

Hospice volunteers are valued members of our team, and an extension of an integrated clinical team. Volunteers work with patients and families in a variety of ways. Some of these include running errands like grocery shopping, massage, animal therapy visits, respite visits to give caregivers a break, companionship, socialization, reading to patients, sing, playing games and music or sitting vigil. Volunteers see patients in facilities and in their homes. We provide thorough, enriching training via a self-paced, online training program. We provide service to those in San Francisco (7X7) and Southern Marin.

Health clearance, vaccinations and a background check are provided through Sutter Health. Our volunteers are required to receive or show verification of an annual flu shot and Tuberculin skin test or blood test, provide immunization records or titers showing immunity to MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and Varicella, show proof of TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis), complete a drug screen and a health screening, consent to a criminal background check, and submit a copy of current driver’s license and auto insurance. Sutter will provide health screening and any necessary tests or vaccinations.

We are currently looking for bilingual volunteers, Spanish, Mandarin and Russian,

and certified Pet Therapy Animals and their humans!

Please contact Katherine if you have questions or would like an application.

Mission Statement

Sutter Care at Home enhances the health and well being of the people in the communities we serve through a not-for-profit commitment to compassion and excellence in home-based services and products.

Description

To become a hospice volunteer at Sutter Care at Home the greatest gift you can offer is your time, your caring nature, and your willingness to listen. Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers, so experience is not required. It's a great opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones. Volunteers are trained to enhance the overall goal of meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of hospice patients and their families.

Volunteers may stay with the patient to give the caregiver some time away or time to rest and they can be a caring companion and compassionate listener to both patients and families. While volunteers cannot provide clinical or personal care, they may be able to assist with routine tasks and errands.

Requirements: Volunteers receive 24 hours of training, health clearance and a background check, and attend monthly educational meetings. They must work closely with Volunteer Program Coordinator as members of the hospice team.
