The Vermont Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is looking for Chaplain Officers and Assistant Chaplain Officers to become part of our volunteer , non-profit organization, chartered by Congress as the United States Air Force Auxiliary.
Do you have a desire to volunteer and serve your community a few days a month? Do you have an interest in becoming part of a Search & Rescue organization that saves numerous lives every year throughout the United States? As a volunteer with CAP you can participate in Search and Rescue (SAR) missions; Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX’s); and disaster relief efforts as part of the Auxiliary to the United States Air Force. Our organization also coordinates and works with other disaster relief and governmental organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security, DoD, FEMA and Vermont Emergency Management.
Chaplain Officers and Assistant Chaplain Officers perform the following duties:
- The chaplain is a member of the commander’s staff at all echelons of command, and as such is the advisor to the commander and his/her staff on matters of religion, morals, and the well-being of personnel under his/her command.
- This program includes, but is not limited to:
- Providing pastoral care of senior and cadet members, including counseling, visitation, encouragement, and other special assistance as the chaplain may be able to provide.
- Performing professional functions as necessary, for example, religious services, liturgies, pastoral counseling, etc.
- Conducting character development programs.
- Participating as chaplains in cadet summer encampments and other cadet activities.
- Participating in Emergency Services missions and exercises by providing a chaplain presence and resource for members participating in the mission/exercise and those on the scene who may be in distress.
- Participating in ecclesiastical public relations activities
If you’re up for the task, CAP offers non-military citizens stimulating training opportunities few people outside of the military can experience. Our volunteer members continuously train to acquire the life-saving and Emergency Services skills necessary to assist Federal and State humanitarian agencies, Emergency Management agencies for when disasters strike, and to participate in search and rescue missions.
The following local squadrons are in need of Chaplain Officers and Assistant Chaplain Officers and are constantly training and preparing their members for the skills necessary to provide Emergency Services to the public in a time of need.
