The Vermont Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is looking for Emergency Services Officers and Assistant Emergency Services Officers to become part of our volunteer , non-profit organization, chartered by Congress as the United States Air Force Auxiliary. Do you have a desire to volunteer and serve your community a few days a month? Do you have an interest in becoming part of a Search & Rescue organization that saves numerous lives every year throughout the United States? As a volunteer with CAP you can participate in Search and Rescue (SAR) missions; Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX’s); and disaster relief efforts as part of the Auxiliary to the United States Air Force. Our organization also coordinates and works with other disaster relief and governmental organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security, DoD, FEMA and Vermont Emergency Management. Emergency Services Officers and Assistant Emergency Services Officers perform the following duties: Manage and direct emergency services activities. Develop agreements with agencies responsible for search, domestic emergencies, and civil defense. Develop and maintain an adequate emergency service force. Develop training programs to ensure that highly qualified ES personnel are available for search and rescue, and disaster relief missions. Develop plans and standard operating procedures to support the wing’s emergency services program. Maintain records to determine the status of resources (personnel, vehicles, aircraft, radios and other emergency equipment) available for ES missions. Develop and maintain a rapid alerting system for assembling necessary resources in a timely manner. If you’re up for the task, CAP offers non-military citizens stimulating training opportunities few people outside of the military can experience. Our volunteer members continuously train to acquire the life-saving and Emergency Services skills necessary to assist Federal and State humanitarian agencies, Emergency Management agencies for when disasters strike, and to participate in search and rescue missions. The following local squadrons are in need of Emergency Services Officers and Assistant Emergency Services Officers and are constantly training and preparing their members for the skills necessary to provide Emergency Services to the public in a time of need. Burlington, VT - The Burlington Senior Squadron: This Squadron generally meets the first Wednesday of each month from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 355 Valley Road, South Burlington, VT 05403. The meeting is at our headquarters on Valley Road on the second floor of the hangar also used by the Vermont Flight Academy. Our door is the left-hand entrance. It is kept locked; you must ring the bell or call the number on the door. (Someone will come down and let you in.) Berlin, VT - The Capital Composite Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the CAP hangar at the Knapp State Airport in Barre, 2081 Airport Road, Berlin, VT. Rutland, VT - The Rutland Composite Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Thursday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Rutland Airport, 1002 Airport Road, CAP Emergency Operations Center, North Clarendon, VT. Bennington, VT - The Southern Vermont Senior Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Tuesday at 5:15 pm at the Bennington Airport, 1563 Walloomsac Road, Bennington, VT. Springfield, VT - The Catamount Composite Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Sunday 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the Springfield airport, 13 Airport Road, North Springfield, VT. While the central purpose of this ad is to find Emergency Services Officers and Assistant Emergency Services Officers, the focus of our efforts are in the training and preparation of Aircrew and Ground Team Members for the Vermont Wing. As such, there are numerous roles available to non-flying members, such as radio communications, logistics, planning, and mission staff participation. We invite and welcome you to be a guest at one of our regular squadron meetings. One of our members will give you a tour of the facility before or after the meeting. You will also have a chance to meet some of our members who will discuss the organization and provide you with valuable information, as well as answer any questions you might have about CAP. Qualifications: Strong organizational skills, people and communication skills. Aged 18 or older. Willingness to become a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Ability to pass a background check. Make presentations to outside groups, both youth and adult, to attract new members. Place posters and other recruiting materials in strategic locations advertising local meeting times and places. Stage display booths and provide recruiting coverage at local high schools, shopping centers, air shows, and other public events. Personally contact individuals expressing an interest in CAP by telephone, written inquiry, etc., and follow up to ensure that all interested persons are fully informed on the CAP program and local unit activities. The Green Mountain Composite Squadron of the Vermont Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), is looking for an enthusiastic person to become the squadron commander for this all volunteer, non-profit organization, chartered by Congress as the United States Air Force (USAF) Auxiliary. Do you have a desire to lead a squadron, volunteer and serve your community a few days per month? Do you have an interest in becoming part of a Search and Rescue organization that saves numerous lives every year throughout the United States? As a leader in CAP, you can coordinate and participate in Search and Rescue (SAR) missions; Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX’s); and disaster relief missions, as part of the USAF Auxiliary. At the same time you will be mentoring and training Cadets. You will have a solid existing Senior staff to work with too. Our organization also coordinates and works with other disaster relief and governmental organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security, DoD, FEMA, and Vermont Emergency Management.
