CALL TO ACTION: Veteran Volunteers Needed!
Hospice Volunteers who are Veterans have the life-changing honor of supporting a military Veteran in the end of life journey. Veteran Volunteers visit Veteran patients to provide companionship, engage in life review, and provide caregiver support. Veteran Volunteers are essential members of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Group, working together while supporting patients and families throughout San Diego County.
Veteran Volunteers have a special role in coordinating and facilitating Veteran Pinning Ceremonies and other recognition for our Veteran patients. Veteran Volunteers who enjoy singing and/or playing music would be wonderful additions to our Team!
Kaiser Permanente Hospice Volunteers are thoroughly trained in hospice care as well as infection control and are equipped with proper PPE to conduct socially distanced in-person visits with patients and their families. Volunteer tasks may also include:
- Giving relief to family caregivers in the home to allow them some special time to rest and relax.
- Running errands and grocery shopping.
- Sharing a hobby or interest.
- Reading to the patient, writing letters or cards, and making telephone calls.
- Preparing light meals and menu planning.
- Listening to music together.
- Visiting with the patient and family.
