Habitat for Humanity Whatcom is a non-profit organization committed to ensuring that everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place that they can call home.

Our volunteer committees are responsible for much of the work that keeps Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County going. In fact, for every volunteer hour logged at the construction site, the committees put in 10! If you think you might be interested in serving on a committee below are a mix of our current committees and ones we would love to form:

  • Homebuyer and Homeowner Support Committee
    • Handles and evaluates applications from individuals and families looking for a home. After evaluation, they make recommendations to the board of directors as to who should be selected.
  • Homebuyer Selection Committee
    • Acts as the voice of the families in need. They work with chosen families and provide ongoing support throughout the home-building process.
  • Faith Relations Committee
    • Habitat for Humanity was founded as a Christian ministry. The goal of this committee is to reach out to our roots, and find new ways for local faith groups to get involved.
  • Women's Build Committee
    • A newly implemented committee, looking for bright minded and strong women to join the cause. Looking for leaders and group members to get involved in the building process, attend events, and host fundraisers.

While all of our committees are different stages of recruiting, if any of these sound interesting you can respond to us here or on our website @ www.hfhwhatcom.org and join us in building healthy neighborhoods that create equity and prosperity for everyone.

Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County works in partnership with God and the people of our community to provide simple, decent housing for God's people in need by building or renovating houses so that there are affordable homes in which families can live and grow into all that God intended.

Description

Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County is a locally governed, self-sustaining affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are a non-profit organization committed to overcoming substandard housing through the building of affordable, decent homes with families.

We build homes with families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing.

Habitat in your community and around the world have built over half a million homes. Since we have been operating in Whatcom County, beginning in 1988, we’ve completed 40 homes and housed more than 150 Whatcom County residents.

Habitat works in partnership with families in need of decent, affordable housing and community volunteers, businesses, churches and other civic organizations. We repair, build, and sell good, affordable homes so that families can build a strong foundation for the future.

We provide home building, and mortgage financing for residents earning less than 60% of the area median income. We refer families who do not meet our qualifications to other local resources. Also we offer affordable home furnishings, appliances, and building materials to the public at the Habitat Store as a service to our community and to offset our operational costs.
