VITAS wants to enlist your services to help care for terminally ill veterans living at home and nursing homes. VITAS Veteran Volunteers are U.S. military veterans themselves and trained to meet the specific needs of veterans on hospice.
Veteran volunteers visit terminally ill veterans; help veterans apply for benefits; attend or help plan activities for Memorial and Veteran’s Days events and educate veteran’s groups about hospice services. We are currently looking for a Veteran Volunteer to visit veteran hospice patients residing at in their own homes. Veteran Volunteers provide friendly visits and listen to veterans’ life stories. They also assist caregivers with relief care, running errands and advocate for patients as well as their families.
Volunteer orientation teaches the skills required to be a hospice volunteer. VITAS Veteran Volunteers are trained to meet specific end- of- life needs of veterans to improve their quality of life. Days and times for volunteering are ongoing and flexible according to your schedule.
Veterans enjoy receiving visitors- people who will listen to their memories and life experiences. This is a great opportunity to share activities and hobbies with veterans to thank them for their service. Description
Volunteers are the heart of VITAS Healthcare, providing friendly, non- medical support to hospice patients and their family or offering support services in the office. We are seeking caring and compassionate individuals to volunteers for our patients in their homes or in nursing facilities in the community.
