VITAS Healthcare is currently looking for a volunteer feeding assistant to help a hospice patient residing in their own home during mealtimes in the evening and/or during the weekend. All it takes is compassion and a little time to become a feeding assistant volunteer. Volunteer feeding assistants provide the gifts of sustenance and companionship to hospice patients, who often need more time and assistance to finish their mailed. Volunteers get training in how to make any meal more enjoyable for patients, by being patient and providing a listening ear. Tasks can include preparing patients' meals, serving food, providing encouragement and conversation, cutting food so patients can feed themselves, assist with beverages as well as feeding patients. The time commitment from the volunteer can be as little as one to two hours, yet the reward is instant gratification. All VITAS Healthcare volunteers attend a training to learn about communication skills, family dynamics, the dying journey, and ways to positively affect the patient and his or her family. This volunteer opportunity is in the evening and/or weekend for around 2 hours a week. Arnold, MO 63010
VITAS Healthcare is looking for kind and caring people to help terminally ill patients and their families- just by being there. Many of our patients live at home with family members or friends who rarely get the opportunity to leave the house since they are devoted to caring for their loved ones. Relief care (sitting with a patient while the caregiver takes a break) is one of our biggest volunteer needs. For caregivers, getting the opportunity to run an errand, go to the movies or a doctor’s appointment can renew their energy. This better equips them for the responsibilities of caregiving. We are currently looking for a Caregiver Relief volunteer with weekday availability to help with visiting a home patient in Arnold, MO 63010. Caregiver relief volunteers provide non-medical services for home patients while family members take a break. This volunteer opportunity would be for approximately 2 to 3 hours a week. Daytime availability Monday through Friday is preferred. VITAS Healthcare provides comprehensive training and orientation for hospice volunteering. Days and times for volunteering are flexible according to your availability. For more information, please contact Emily Jokerst at (314) 682-3434 or at Emily.Jokerst@vitas.com You can also find out more on VITAS Healthcare at www.vitas.com
