Overview :
Agate Housing and Services helps people experiencing homelessness with the mission of ending homelessness and hunger. In downtown Minneapolis, we have a Food Centre where we offer free meals and a food shelf. It’s also a space for offering extra help and resources, which is why we are looking for a Resource Specialist to come in once a week. Ted Pouliot has been doing this for many years, coming on a weekly basis, building a robust portfolio of updated resources for people experiencing homelessness and then printing copies out for them. He brings his own copy machine, sign, and business cards. We are looking for a Resource Specialist to take over Ted’s responsibilities so he can retire from this role.
Responsibilities :
- Produce copies of resources as needed by guests, diners, and shoppers at the Food Centre
- Take note of any missing resources or information to research and add to the portfolio later
- Add to and update information in resource portfolio
Requirements and Commitment
- Aligns with the mission and values of Agate
- Comes to the Food Centre on a weekly basis
- Able to interact directly with individuals experiencing housing instability and related experiences
- Able to work in a high energy environment
Confidentiality:
The Resource Specialist may be exposed to the personal information of people they are trying to help. They will have to pass a background check and sign the Volunteer Handbook, which include rules and boundaries around confidential information.
Training :
The Resource Specialist will be trained by Ted Pouliot, to become his official successor. After Ted’s official retirement, they can direct any further questions or concerns to Noah Chan, the Volunteer Development and Internal Engagement Manager.
Supervision :
The Resource Specialist will be supervised by Ted during training and up until he transitions out of this role. They will be shadowing him in the beginning, and gradually transitioning into an independent role. When Ted is not present, the Resource Specialist can report any questions, comments, or concerns to Noah Chan, the Volunteer Development and Internal Engagement Manager, their official on-site supervisor. In the case that the on-site supervisor is not available, Kitchen Manager or Food Shelf Coordinator, will be the backup contact.
Location :
714 Park Ave, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55404
Impact :
There are a variety of resources available in the Twin Cities to help people experiencing homelessness, but not everyone has direct access to that information, or may not know where to look. The Resource Specialist plays an important role by connecting people to the resources they need, pointing them in the right direction, or giving them a good place to start. As information and resources change, it is crucial that they update their records so that people can receive the most accurate information and make the best use of their time. The Resource Specialist can help people spend more time receiving the services and support they need and less time looking for it.
