Mission Statement

Community Resources, Inc.(CRI) supports literacy, academic achievement, and curriculum enhancement for students and their families by providing programs and activities which utilize community volunteers as teachers, speakers, mentors and professional advisors.

Description

Community Resources, Inc. provides educational opportunities to more than 100 schools and 70,000 students each year. To accomplish this, CRI calls upon the knowledge, energy and commitment of hundreds of volunteers from the community. CRI brings volunteers into classrooms to share information and expertise on hundreds of topics. CRI also creates family reading, math and science nights that bring students and their parents back to school to have fun learning together. The Academic Mentors program matches gifted students with professionals in the community in areas of career and curricular interest. Finally, CRI develops and conducts career fairs, science fairs, multi-cultural festivals and other customized special events for elementary, middle and high schools.

Staff was very welcoming. The kids here are amazing and always wanting to participate.

I have recommended it to people already because it's a simple way to volunteer when you don't have too much time on your hands, and you don't lose the little that you do on travel time.

I usually volunteer for the family nights. It's an easy job serving pizza and lemonade to families who are attending for activities such as reading, cultural, math, etc. nights but it's great seeing anf participating with the families who are excited about doing activities together. This is a great way to show your interest in children, families and Denver Public Schools; it's always an interesting time and I've met a lot of interesting people.

I've been a CRI volunteer for seven years and love the opportunities it provides to visit Denver-area schools and interact with students, teachers, CRI staff, and other volunteers. As a creative writing mentor, I work one-on-one with fifth-graders who love to write. As a Family Nights volunteer, I read stories to much younger students, help out with activities that range from math games to art projects, or simply watch along with families as we all enjoy a talented local performer. I don't know of another nonprofit in the country that so effectively pairs community volunteers with children at at-risk schools. CRI is a gem that deserves the support of everyone in Denver. You'll be amazed by what you get out of volunteering for this very special organization.
