Mission Statement
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is the premier center for the preservation and research of the legacy of Civil War medical innovation. Our vision: The National Museum of Civil war Medicine is a living institution that utilizes the history of Civil War medical innovations to: Inspire our society by cocnnecting the lessons of the past with the challenges of our world today, Engage the broadest possible audience and partners, Encourage innovative and collaborative scholarship.
Description
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine has a location in Frederick, MD, and the Pry House Field Hospital Museum at Antietam National Battlefield, Keedysville, MD. Both museums offer tours, lectures, and youth and adult interactive programming. We also offer a unique experiential professional development program for government and civilian agencies through the Letterman Institute. An annual conference is held in October, and a recognition dinner for the presentation of the Major Jonathan Letterman Award for Medical Excellence.
