Founded in 1993 by Pastor Eric Tietze, Heart of Compassion (HOC) Distribution is a 501(c)(3) food bank and social service organization. HOC works to alleviate hunger, food insecurities and the suffering of those who have fallen on hard times. As a Food Bank Support Volunteer, you will prep food items for public distribution to help alleviate food insecurity in Los Angeles County. This is an in-person role averaging 4 hours per week. Available shifts; Monday - Friday 8 am - 12 pm. Volunteer will sort produce items, help prepare food bags, load food bags into shopping carts, and load recipient vehicles with groceries. We have been serving Revere and the surrounding area for the past 36 years. During the year, we serve about 900 families. We typically unload an average of 15,000 lbs of food throughout the week that we receive from the Greater Boston Food Bank. As a Donated Food Pick up Volunteer, you will assist with picking up food donations as needed. This is an in-person role, currently the schedule is dependent on volunteers’ availability. Requirements include having a large van or truck to pick up donations from stores or individuals and transport to food pantry. As a Farmers Market Champion Volunteer, you will assist in ensuring markets are operating smoothly and efficiently. The support given will foster a thriving local food system that is necessary to connect our small local producers and consumers. This is an in-person role, weekends & holidays, markets typically run 9a - 2p, May - October. farmers market location sites available in St. Lawrence County (Canton, Gouverneur, Potsdam, Massena). Responsibilities can include market setup and breakdown including booth and signage; operating and educating about the farmers market token system; providing customer and vendor support; and participating in outreach activities to raise awareness about the farmers markets. Qualifications include a passion for local food system and community building, effective communication skills, basic technology skills to operate the token system, ability to lift and move market equipment (totes, signs, tent, table) is a plus.
