Share your Love of Reading!- Tutor an Adult Learner

One in six Yolo County residents cannot read and write sufficiently to carry out day-to-day activities at work and home. Adult literacy tutors provide one-on-one tutoring to Yolo County residents who want to improve their reading and writing skills. Common reading and writing goals include reading a book, obtaining a GED, creating a resume or acquiring new computer skills. Tutors are needed throughout Yolo County. Training, support and materials are provided by Yolo Reads staff. Yolo Reads is a free program of the Yolo County Library. The Yolo County Library requires our volunteers to reside in Northern California. *MUST BE A RESIDENT OF YOLO COUNTY OR IMMEDIATE SURROUNDING COUNTIES (SACRAMENTO, SOLANO, etc.)

Virtual English Conversation Group Leader

Flexible Schedule | Virtual Opportunity

Responsibilities Select appropriate sources and materials for discussion. Lead small conversation groups at New Harmony Housing Community, providing direction and facilitating focus on selected topics for discussion. Conduct educational or interactive exercises with individuals and/or groups. Promote the use of library resources by referring students to specialists at the library, when appropriate. Required Skills A strong commitment to helping people learn to speak English. A friendly and approachable manner. Ability to get along with a diverse group of people. Excellent communication skills. The Yolo County Library requires the ECG facilitator to reside in Yolo County or immediate surrounding counties (Sacramento, Solano, etc.).

Share Your Love FOR LEARNING. Volunteer as an ESL Tutor.

The Yolo County Library seeks to engage the talents, skills, and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities’ information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to our library English as a Second Language (ESL) program. Skilled ESL volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with Library staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun. We currently have adults in Esparto, Davis, Knights Landing, Winters and West Sacramento waiting for a volunteer tutor.
