Mission Statement
Open Mind is dedicated to breaking down the barriers of poverty. Our current focus is bringing the information of the Internet to people who may never get online or even touch a computer.
Description
Open Mind's flagship project is Question Box. Question Box is a local language hotline where users can ask most any question. Operators in front of computer and Internet connections then translate their questions, do searches, and provide the answer.
Users can connect to Operators either through direct phone calls, or by using our Question Boxes.
The Question Box is a simple telephone intercom. Its purpose is to connect people to the Internet. It requires no literacy or computer skills.
Users place a free call by pushing the green button. This places a call to the Operator. The USers then ask their questions.
We have piloted Question Box in greater New Delhi, and are now piloting in Pune, India. We are about to pilot in Uganda.
