Mission Statement
The mission of The Open Pantry is to relieve hunger in our community. We aim to connect people to a variety of filling, nutritious, and culturally-appropriate food as well as to other community resources; to advocate on behalf of those in need locally, statewide, and nationally; and to engage with others in building food security.
Description
We provide short-term food assistance to those in need who reside in the Greater Lowell area. As the oldest food pantry in the area, we understand the reasons for need are numerous. For many people, it is a choice between food or heat or medications; it may be a delayed or stolen check, or it could be an abandoned person who has no other means. While the reasons are varied, the needs are real.
We serve over 1,500 individuals from diverse backgrounds each month. Approximately a third of our constituents are children. Assistance is offered to individuals and families without any discrimination based on race, creed, or country of origin.
The Open Pantry of Greater Lowell is run by a dedicated team of volunteers. Daily operations and organizational development are managed by our Executive Director. Board members represent a variety of backgrounds and are drawn from several area communities. Board members are elected for three-year terms and meet regularly to provide organizational governance and administrative direction.
