Mission Statement
The mission of December of Dreams is to instill hopes and education in children of third world countries by providing them toys, school supplies, and tools to improve their own lives. December of Dreams Organization uses a holistic approach molding university students into leaders that improve the lives of children and other students in third world countries through education, healthcare and self sufficiency.
Description
December of Dreams empowers students to become leaders in their community by assigning director and manager responsibilities to each and having them explore their human potential while being mentored. The experiment is simple: Can students change the world? Can they provide third world children and students access to education through scholarships and school supplies?
We are attempting to make a new chapter of December of Dreams in Berkeley, Golden State University and Virginia State. These new chapters will work together to put the best and brightest to come up with creative solutions to bring toys and education supplies to children of third world, specifically Nicaragua. In addition students will be creating self sustaining programs to reduce poverty while given leadership guidance along the way.
Since our inception in December 2005 we have distributed toys and school supplies to 4000 children and expect to help another 4000 children this December 2008. We are looking for participants who would like to travel with us to hand deliver these school supplies in the December break.
Students/alumni and volunteers can stay a minimum of three days or for the entire official program. Dates are from December 28, 2008 to January 7, 2009. Please visit our website and see the wonderful work we bring to children www.decemberofdreams.org
