Mission Statement

The American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions (AIT-SCM) is a nonprofit organization established by the Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation, descendants of the aboriginal people who populated South Texas and Northeast Mexico. The organization works for the preservation and protection of the culture and traditions of the Native American tribes and other indigenous people who resided in the Spanish colonial missions. AIT-SCM provides a wide array of programs that address the social needs and cultural aspirations of the diverse indigenous communities in San Antonio, Texas.

Description

Volunteers are the life blood of our organization. Since we are a Native American non-profit organization we have many opportunities to experience indigenous and cultural events. We are a small staff of 9 and operate over 5 programs that serve the youth and the community of San Antonio. We hold many events with the indigenous communities as well as with the population throughout San Antonio and the south Texas region.

AIT-SCM was a great inspirational program that kept me on a path or becoming a better person, man and professional. Isaac, Ramon and Frank at the time always had me smiling, laughing and reminding me that with the right path I will become something great one day. And to this day at the age of 33 I never forgotten everything thought me. I am now a family of two beautiful children and wife, home owner, Government employed career-oriented Police SGT. With an upcoming promotion of Lieutenant Supervisor. I like to say I am a proud alumni of AIT-SCM.

I am only 15 but I know now that I'm the age where I can start volunteering. I know lots of friends who would love to do the same. I have time on the weekends and I am sure that my mom would also probably want to come down and help as well. Please give me this opportunity to start volunteering.I would love to go to an art fair and and help out. It is totally my kind of scene and will be so much fun not only to volunteer but they're probably buy some stuff. Thank you Anna Borenheim.
