This is a great Virtual / Off Site Opportunity too. Fresh, clean socks (and underwear!) are vital for people's health, warmth, comfort, and dignity and they are least donated item to people in greatest need. By participating in Operation Sock Drop you not only help keep our community's most vulnerable neighbors safe and healthy, but you will also help maintain their dignity and comfort during this most difficult time in their lives. The shelters we support give out over 8,000 pairs/year so we are always in great need! You can organize a drive with your co-workers, classmates, colleagues or even with friends, family and neighbors. It's an easy and inexpensive way to make a big impact on the comfort, health, safety and dignity of our community's homeless. To get started, just download this flyer and share with everyone you'd like to participate: https://fobh.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Sock-Drop-Flyer-2023.pdf You can drop off 24/7 at the Woods Mullen Women's Shelter, 794 Massachusetts Avenue, right in the South End. You can also box them up and mail them, or place orders online, and have them sent to Attn: Dwayne Brown, Southampton Shelter, 112 Southampton Street, Boston, MA 02118. PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF AT 12 WISE STREET. Keep our community housing programs residents healthy, we continue working remotely and there is no place to leave packages if we aren't there. Thank you! Friends of Boston's Homeless supports Boston's Woods Mullen Women's Shelter and Southampton Men's Shelter (formerly Long Island Shelter). These shelters serve over 800 of our vulnerable neighbors experiencing homelessness every day (about 70% of those served are men and 30% women). The shelters provide safe dignified care and basic emergency services including, a nutritious meal, hot shower, clean bed as well as clothing and toiletries to each and every person in need. This is a great virtual opportunity too. As another Boston winter approaches, our neighbors struggling with homelessness are especially at risk. You can help reduce the danger to those on the streets through our Warm Hands Warm Hearts Winter Apparel Drive. By participating in Warm Hands Warm Hearts you will not only help keep our community's most vulnerable citizens warm, safe and healthy this winter, but you will also help maintain their dignity and comfort during this most difficult time of year. To participate, all you need to do is donate at least one brand-new (or very gently used) winter hat, scarf, pair of gloves, mittens or pair of socks. It's a simple and inexpensive way to make a lasting impact for the homeless women and men in our community. Virtual Opportunity
Just imagine if you didn’t have a safe place to call home. You can help our vulnerable neighbors move out of crowded shelters and unsafe outdoor spaces into safe, stable housing and live hopeful, peaceful futures in our community. In fact, Friends of Boston's Homeless has been helping over 30 people each month move into a stable home of their own. They all need a little help getting set up in their new apartments. The Housewarming Baskets you make help people who struggle on our streets and in crowded shelters feel that same happiness and sense of security as they move into their new place and get started in their new futures in our community by providing some of the essential items we all need when we move into a home of our own. By assembling and donating Housewarming Baskets, you'll be an important part of welcoming people into their new homes where they'll finally find the stability and serenity we all need. This is a meaningful and fun opportunity you can do on your own or with friends and family, co-workers and colleagues. It’s as simple as assembling new (not used) items like cleaning supplies, dish soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, a set of sheets or towels, in a basket to be given as a housewarming gift to someone about to move into a place of their own - many for the first time in their lives. And please include a welcome note, they mean a lot to the people who receive them. You can also make this a fun Zoom by getting together with your co-workers, colleagues, friends and/or family and each person makes their own basket. You can create as many baskets as you'd like! You can drop off 24/7 at the Woods Mullen Women's Shelter, 794 Massachusetts Avenue, right in the South End. Thank you! We expect to help at least 550 more people move beyond homelessness into homes of their own this year and they'll all need a little help getting started. The baskets you make will be a big part of this! No matter what you choose, your gifts will transform someone's new apartment into a warm, welcoming home. To get started, just download this flyer and share with everyone you'd like to participate: https://fobh.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Housewarming-Baskets-Flyer-2023.pdf
