Help feed our community! Our Food Pantry Volunteer will assist with packing duties for both the Serving our Seniors program, the Backpacks in Schools program, and our daily Food Pantry. Packing shifts are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. Bags and supplies are provided by LSS. For those looking for a different type of Food Pantry Volunteering experience, we can place qualified volunteers at our community check-in desk during those hours. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus + for this opportunity! **Currently the Food Pantry does not have a program in place for volunteers wishing to satisfy court mandated community service hours for Department of Corrections**

If so, we invite you to become a volunteer with Circle of Welcome, a unique volunteer program in partnership with Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida (LSS). Circle of Welcome is a volunteer program that invites the community to get involved Lutheran Social Services’ work of welcoming newcomers. A volunteer group of at least 6-10 members makes up a Circle of Welcome team. This team commits to a 3, 4 or 6-month period, of at least 3 hours per week for the first month, then at least 2 hours per week for months 2-6. This time can be split among team members. During this time, the team will assist a refugee family as they integrate into the community. Services can include: Apartment setup Provide a welcome meal Help applying for public assistance Help with school enrollment And more This is a special commitment that fosters a meaningful relationship between LSS, a community group, and a refugee family. Do you want to help refugee families integrate into the Jacksonville community? Do you want to broaden your worldview and learn more about a different culture? This opportunity may be for you! We are in search for volunteer mentors who would like to share their skills and experience to assist resettling refugees. You can select to mentor a family or a young adult. Help families navigate the Jacksonville community and understand everything needed to know when living in the United States. Assist young adults in achieving their educational, vocational, or personal goals. Mentors get matched with a refugee client whose goals matches the mentors skills and experiences. They meet each week to complete action steps towards those goals and help the individual adjust to life here in the United States. Time Commitment: 1 hour per week for a predetermined amount of time and can be flexible based on the client and mentor’s schedules. We are looking for volunteers to mentor our refugee youth! Get matched to a mentee (a refugee youth between the ages of 15-24). Our Youth Mentors meet with mentees to work toward reaching personal, vocational, or academic goal(s). Share your life experience and insight. This opportunity asks for a 1-hour weekly or 2-hour bimonthly commitment over a period of 6 months. We will pay for a background check!

Our agency resettles refugees from all over the world. We need volunteers who speak our most common languages to help us orient the refugee families and help them acclimate to life in Jacksonville. We are looking for volunteers who speak Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Russian, Arabic, and Dari. Our need varies depending on our client demographics at the time. Volunteer interpreters are called on an as-needed basis.
