Mission Statement
Save the Turtles is a true all-volunteer grass-roots organization. Since our conception, no one has received any salaries, and the donations we receive are dedicated to the direct protection of endangered sea turtles and their eggs. Although we have assisted in different regions over the last 20 years, in 2022 we are sending grants to projects along the Caribbean Ocean in Costa Rica and the Pacific Ocean in Nicaragua where poaching is extreme. Our mission includes providing financial support to the local turtle patrollers who protect the beach at night, a dangerous job. We send grants whenever possible for their challenging work. Being able to provide salaries also benefits the locals, in the small communities, having a more sustainable life ..

I had an outstanding experience as a volunteer/intern with Save the Turtles. Co-founders Debbie and Jana are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about sea turtle conservation and have established a unique community-based model of conservation in Costa Rica.
As a volunteer, I was able to develop my particular interests in design and outreach. The work environment was very collaborative, and I learned a great deal about the realities of creating and maintaining an effective nonprofit.
If you are looking to make a difference in a local environmental nonprofit that works on a global scale, I highly recommend Save the Turtles.
