The SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program provides health insurance information and free, unbiased, and confidential counseling assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers. As a SHINE volunteer, you serve your community by performing at least one of the following functions : * Provide Medicare and health insurance information, counseling, and assistance in person or over the phone * Deliver educational presentations or speeches * Distribute educational and promotional materials in your community * Provide training and leadership to other volunteers * Assist with general program support

Volunteers are needed to educate and counsel senior and disabled adults and their caregivers on health insurance issues. They are also needed to provide assistance in accessing affordable prescription drugs. The volunteers will provide one-on-one counseling over the phone, via ZOOM or in person. They can work from their homes or counseling sites. Volunteers must agree to participate in educational presentations or community health fairs. Extensive training is required initially, and ongoing training is provided regularly. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage and receive meal allowances when on duty. Travel will generally be in the areas of Hillsborough, Manatee, Highlands, Hardee, or Polk Counties. A two-year commitment is required. Please note that persons holding a current insurance agent license cannot be considered.
