Mission Statement
Ours is a learning community where everyone plays an important part - students, staff, and parents. Students thrive independently yet work cooperatively, empowered by a sense of confidence and purpose. Staff and parents support and inspire each other through participation in parent nights, conferences, and PTO projects. Together, we forge lasting relationships that contribute to everyone’s success and happiness. "One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child." - Dr. Maria Montessori
Description
Mountain Laurel adheres to the teachings of Maria Montessori, a pioneer in progressive education and child psychology. Dr. Montessori believed that education should be an "aid to life." At Mountain Laurel Montessori, the students’ natural love of learning is cultivated. Children are supported in their own process of self-construction by adults who care. We offer love and respect in an environment with endless possibilities of exploration with materials and activities designed to entice and delight.
Mountain Laurel provides ideal learning environments for each stage of development from infancy through adolescence. We are one school on two campuses that are uniquely suited for each age group’s specific needs. Our Front Royal campus is home to our Montessori Beginnings (parent/infant program), Toddler Community, Primary (preschool-kindergarten), and Elementary (1st-6th grade) classes. This campus is located on five wooded acres, allowing children daily opportunities to explore the natural world. Our Flint Hill Campus (7th-9th grades) is situated in a picturesque rural setting ideally suited for rigorous academics, given meaning through application on the farm and in community life.
Meticulous care is taken to design and maintain our indoor and outdoor environments so that students can realize their fullest potential - socially, emotionally, and academically.
