Mission Statement
Our mission is to prevent animal suffering; to help reduce overpopulation by promoting spaying and neutering, to educate the public about animal welfare and to place adoptable pets in loving homes. We advocate for animal welfare legislation and support the prosecution of animal abusers.
Description
The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is an independent local non-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. We are located in Fort Mill, South Carolina and serve the greater Charlotte region including York, Lancaster and Mecklenburg counties.
We successfully placed 924 pets in loving homes last year preventing them from being euthanized. In an effort to stop future overpopulation, we now require that all adopted pets be spayed or neutered before leaving our rescue.
Because we are an independent no kill facility, we make our own funds via grants, adoptions, fund raising activities and donations from our generous supporters. Often people think since we are named the Humane Society we receive funds from other Humane Society non profits and we do NOT. So please give locally and volunteer. We work diligently to be good stewards of our funds so that more lives can be saved.

With a few expenses, you can rest assure that your donations goes to help save more lives. If you donate to our thrift shop or christmas shop, your purchases go to help a FUR life in need. The work the volunteers do to support animal care and adoptions is amazing. They put in lots of hours to make sure the animals get the best homes.
The people at the rescue and the Thrift shop are wonderful to work with. There is a lot of camaraderie and support for each other. It makes it a great place to volunteer!
