Description
ASHA was founded in 1914 in New York City, formed out of early 20th century social reform movements focused on fighting sexually transmitted infections (known then as venereal disease, or VD) and prostitution. Now, more than 100 years after its creation, ASHA remains America’s nonprofit authority for sexual health information. The American Sexual Health Association promotes the sexual health of individuals, families and communities by advocating sound policies and practices and educating the public, professionals and policy makers, in order to foster healthy sexual behaviors and relationships and prevent adverse health outcomes.

Good Afternoon,
My name is Jontue Stansbury. I am a Health Service Management student on a nursing track at North Carolina A&T State University. I am also a Novartis Scholar through ThurdGood Marshall and my focus is on spreading awareness about the health disparities that are prevalent in primarily African American communities. In September of 2023, I was invited to Washington DC, at the Payne Center for Social Justice to speak with some of the most powerful people in research and medicine. I want to continue that work by creating more opportunities for my community by educating them on cervical cancer. Some of the ideas I have are to create surveys, community service events, and host programs. I would be glad to serve as a National Ambassador and I believe I have the necessary skills to educate my community about cervical cancer.
