Volunteer with Partners in Education's Mentors in Toledo Schools literacy program to help K-3 students in various Toledo area schools build a positive foundation for the future in education. Work 1:1 with students in grades K-3 on reading skills Choose your schedule: 1-8 hours per week, M-Th, 9:15-11:15a (approximately) Can accommodate time off, but ask for at least one semester commitment Must be able to pass a background check Various school locations are available "More than half of all entering kindergarteners (over 61,000 children) are not on-track in language and literacy; ... Ohio students are making progress post-pandemic, but only 60% of 3rd grade students are proficient readers, with proficiency rates among some groups of readers being even lower." The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), which assesses students across the country on reading proficiency, also shows concerning results for Ohio students, with only 34.56% of 4th grade students and 33.13% of 8th grade students proficient in reading research shows that students who aren’t reading proficiently by 3rd grade are four times more likely to leave high school without earning a diploma than their peers that are proficient readers. -Governor DeWine’s March 2023 Executive Order
