Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation manages 3.1 miles of trails around the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. We need committed volunteers who will weekly or every other week help us monitor and restore the trails. This can be done at your own time, and schedule, and reports to the Volunteer Coordinator as well as the Director of Trails and Conservation. Job duties include: painting over graffiti, removing graffiti, picking up trash, picking up litter, small restoration/maintenance support, filling in holes and ruts, removing overgrowth amongst other duties. Can be as little as 30 minutes a week, or if action needs to be taken, a bit longer. We are trying to build a robust community who helps to keep our trails safe and accessible, and curb bad behavior by having a consistent presence. Perks include: being outside, helping our natural landscapes, AHLF SWAG, complimentary coffee at the DC, annual volunteer appreciation event. Will you join this movement?

Join our chicken care team and come by weekly to care for our 6 girls! Our nature center is looking for a volunteer who can make a weekly commitment to a reoccuring morning or afternoon chicken care slot. Let us know you are interested to see what shifts are currently available! Chicken care involves checking for eggs, giving the chickens fresh food and water, treats, and cleaning the habitat. Our chickens receive volunteer care twice a day at 9am (morning) and 4pm (afternoon) M-F.

Garden/Landscaping Volunteers Needed Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation 1580 Cannon Road, Carlsbad CA 92008 Mon-Sat: 9am-4pm and Sun 9am-4pm Scope of Work: Weeding, planting, moving mulch, trimming back overgrowth and watering in our native plant garden! Date: Ongoing and flexible schedule; based around volunteers' availability and when the Discovery Center is open (see open hours above). Volunteers is any time commitment, no minimum. Perks: Community service hours, letters of appreciation, giving back to the community and the environment, spending time in nature and getting to learn more about native plants! Description of Work/Commitment: We are in need of volunteers to constantly help us upkeep our native gardens. This includes removing weeds and overgrowth, trimming, moving mulch cover etc. No Landscaping experience required, just people who like to be outdoors and are in need of hours, or looking to give back. We provide all the tools. What to Wear/bring: Water, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, long pants, hat, sunscreen and sturdy footwear.

The Discovery Center is the new home of four native Birds of Prey. These wild animals require specialized care and training for educational programming. We are looking for interns that can make a long-term commitment to the care of these birds and eventually educate students on their species and importance to our community. This is a 12-month internship broken down into 3-month blocks. Months 1-3: Volunteering at Discovery Center Months 3-6: Raptor care such - feeding and habitat cleaning Months 6-9: Learning proper handling of birds, practicing public speaking skills Months 9-12: Educational presentations to school groups with the birds, on-site and at outreach events There will be staff guidance and interviews between each stage to proceed in this program. A long-term commitment is necessary.
