Description

As Lighthouse Projects International (our stateside organization), we exist to organize, train, lead, and de-brief short-term mission teams in such a way that all parties benefit from the experience and grow in their kingdom-mindedness. With our teams, we help the people of Los Alcarrizos by enabling the ministry of Lighthouse Projects D.R. to continue its work of serving the community and displaying the gospel through various projects and events, knowing that as we leave, there are missionaries in place working with the local churches to follow up with all that is accomplished. This gives us assurance that our work is worthwhile and meaningful. It allows us to grow from the experience of working hard, observing community in action, witnessing the Lord's work in the D.R., and reflecting on the various ways He is using the entire experience to shape us and teach us upon our return.

As for the ministry in the Dominican Republic, Lighthouse Projects D.R. is an outreach ministry located in Los Alcarrizos, a community of over 312,000 people about 30 minutes northwest of Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. The main focus as a ministry is building relationships through education. Through the Russel Van Vleet school, we serve children from preschool through 12th grade, and through our vocational training programs we serve adults in the areas of computers, electricity, auto mechanics, cosmetology, marketing and English as a Second Language.

Through education we are continuing to identify other needs, and we are committed to meeting those needs as we are able. Presently, we are meeting the community’s needs through a water purification plant with a capacity of producing 25,000 gallons per day of safe drinking water at a discounted cost. Also, we do construction in the community including the building of homes for poor families, playgrounds, basketball courts, sidewalks, curbs, etc. By meeting the immediate needs of the community, we further our relationships with its people, which often earns us the privilege to share the Gospel or disciple them deeper in their faith.
