The mission of the Department of Emergency Medical Services is to provide services to the community which preserve life, improve health and promotes the safety of citizens and visitors, who live, learn, work and play in our community.
This mission is accomplished through a systems approach focused on providing timely responses; high quality patient care services; public awareness and education; proactive safety interventions; and all hazards readiness.
Description
Virginia Beach EMS is the largest all volunteer EMS agency in the United States. Virginia Beach EMS trains our volunteers to become Emergency Medical Technicians and will also sponsor the volunteer to continue their education up through to the Paramedic level if they decide this is what they want for their future. Becoming a volunteer with the City of Virginia Beach is a wonderful opportunity for individuals to succeed in the medical field for their career. In addition to the education that is offered, the opportunity also promotes volunteerism within their community. Our agency is committed to keeping the community involved in giving back in order to save financially as well as providing the residents a valued service with no charge attached to it.

I have been volunteering with Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad for over 13 years which is one of the 10 Volunteer Rescue Squads Virginia Beach EMS supports and have enjoyed every minute of it. Great training Great people and wonderful experience helping the members of our community. All training was free and the amount of training you want besides the basic EMT training that you get is up to you. The City of Virginia Beach Departmnet of Emergency Medical Services ensures that all the volunteer's get the training they require at no cost to the Volunteer.
